Two ESG investing themes have emerged as strong performers so far: in 2023 energy efficiency and the circular economy. Clean energy, by contrast, is off to a rough start, according to a new report.
RBC Capital Markets builds “baskets” of companies for its nine sustainability themes and tracks performance relative to a universe of companies in the Russell 3000 index, which follows 3,000 of the largest U.S.-traded stocks and is weighted by market capitalization. For its studies, RBC gives stocks in the basket of names and the Russell 3000 benchmark equal weighting.
